In recent years, vitamin E has been noticed by both the regular and the medical community as an important part of skin care and skin health. Vitamin E is found naturally in foods such as egg whites, nuts and avocados but is also available as a liquid or pill supplement. Vitamin E is a very powerful antioxidant and has the ability to neutralize free radicals such as pollution and UV rays before they can damage skin cells and tissue. Vitamin E is also important as it helps the body regulate vitamin A, which is very important for healthy skin.
Sun Protection
Using a vitamin E-based lotion on the skin before applying sunscreen can increase it's effectiveness by protecting skin cells from harmful UV rays immediately. Most sunscreens take up to twenty minutes to absorb into the skin enough to be protective.
Skin Disease Treatment
Vitamin E is useful for treating or easing the symptoms of chronic skin diseases such as psoriasis and erythema. Topical applications are more helpful in some cases and oral ingestion is more helpful in others, so be sure to consult a dermatologist or a doctor for advice on what will work best for you before you self-treat.
